Rift Deepens in Turkey’s CHP as Rival Camps Clash Over Leadership Ruling
Supporters of former CHP leader Ozgur Ozel gathered in Ankara to protest the court's decision, with some participants criticizing Kilicdaroglu for accepting the ruling and returning to the party headquarters.
At the same time, Kilicdaroglu hosted a separate meeting with supporters at CHP headquarters, where he defended the court's verdict and accused his political rivals of harming the party through alleged misconduct, personal interests and internal disputes.
“Did we build this party so that its reputation could be trampled in courtrooms?” Kilicdaroglu told supporters.
Referring to the CHP as a political legacy handed down by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, he questioned who was responsible for dragging the party into legal battles and accused unnamed individuals of undermining the organization through “personal ambitions” and “backroom calculations.”
“People ask me what I will do. What I will do is clear. I will demand accountability,” Kilicdaroglu said.
The rival gatherings highlighted the growing rift within the CHP as party members continue to debate the implications of the court ruling and the future direction of Türkiye’s largest opposition movement.
