Turkey Celebrates Seventy-Four Years of NATO Membership

(MENAFN) Türkiye marked its 74th anniversary of joining NATO on Wednesday, reflecting on more than seven decades of military, political, and strategic contributions to the alliance.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry highlighted that Türkiye continues to play a critical role in Euro-Atlantic security, combining a strong, modern military with advanced defense capabilities and a dynamic domestic defense industry. This long-standing commitment has positioned Türkiye as one of NATO’s key regional partners, bridging Europe and the Middle East and contributing to both deterrence and crisis management initiatives.

Looking ahead, Türkiye will host the NATO Ankara Summit on 7-8 July 2026, underlining its ongoing leadership within the alliance. The summit is expected to gather member states’ leaders to discuss security priorities, defense cooperation, and collective strategies for emerging global threats, further cementing Türkiye’s central role in shaping NATO’s agenda.

The ministry emphasized that Türkiye’s accession in 1952 has enabled it to maintain strategic influence, military readiness, and regional stability, demonstrating the enduring importance of its alliance with NATO over the past 74 years.
