Turkish President Calls for Stability, Reconciliation in Syria

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday appealed for national unity and long-term stability in Syria, stressing that all parties must focus on reconciliation and avoid steps that could undermine efforts toward a durable settlement.

Speaking at a parliamentary group meeting of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in Ankara, Erdogan said, “Our greatest wish for Syria is to achieve stability and peace; we want Syrians to build their future together in unity.”

He underscored the importance of solidarity among Syria’s diverse communities following years of war, pointing out that the framework for a lasting resolution is gradually taking shape.

At the same time, he warned against errors that could jeopardize progress.

“The roadmap for lasting peace in Syria has been set; parties must avoid miscalculations, repeating past mistakes, or poisoning the process with maximalist demands,” Erdogan said.

Reflecting on the toll of the conflict, Erdogan highlighted the shared sense of loss felt across different ethnic and religious groups. “Every drop of blood shed breaks our hearts, regardless of Arab, Turkmen, Kurd or Nusayri; every life lost in Syria feels like losing a part of ourselves.”

He also emphasized the need to pivot toward rebuilding the country and revitalizing its economy. “It is time for Syria’s resources and above- and below-ground wealth to be used for the prosperity of all segments of society, not for digging tunnels under cities,” he said.

Addressing broader regional dynamics, Erdogan dismissed suggestions that Türkiye is pursuing dominance, stating: “Türkiye is not seeking influence in the region and has no desire to shape other countries; on the contrary, we sincerely seek brotherhood.”
