Turkish VP meets US envoy to discuss bilateral ties, regional issues

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz met on Thursday with US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack at the Presidential Complex.

In a statement on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Yilmaz said the discussions focused on strengthening Türkiye–US relations, expanding cooperation in practical areas, and exchanging views on recent developments in the region.

The statement noted that the two sides reviewed economic and trade ties, as well as defense industry matters, including US sanctions on Türkiye under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). Türkiye has maintained that such sanctions, which have affected sales of US fighter jets, are “not befitting relations between allies.”

Yilmaz added that the meeting also included exchanges on recent developments in Iran and Syria, and broader regional and global issues within the context of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan.
