Turkey’s national chief visits Iraq to discuss with top KRG leaders
Kalin’s visit to Erbil included meetings with prominent officials such as Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani, KRG President Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Interior Minister Reber Ahmed, and members of the KRG’s Security Council.
Talks reportedly focused on recent regional developments, particularly in the aftermath of heightened tensions between Iran and Israel. Both sides exchanged ideas on how to foster greater peace and stability in the area.
A key topic on the agenda was the "Terror-Free Türkiye" campaign, with discussions revolving around future cooperation to eradicate terrorism in the region and remove it as a threat to regional security.
The condition and representation of Iraq’s Turkmen population were also thoroughly discussed. Kalin reaffirmed Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Turkmen community.
Additionally, the meetings emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration not only with the KRG but also with Iraq’s central government, aiming for more comprehensive regional coordination.
